CEX has earned lasting recognition across collegiate esports by bringing together educators, administrators, students, operators, brands, technology leaders and innovators around the future of the college esports ecosystem.
College Esports Expo launched in 2018 from classroom discussions and think-tank conversations about how higher education should respond to the rapid growth of competitive gaming. From the beginning, CEX connected esports with academics, careers, student life, media, technology, wellness, business and professional opportunity.
CEX was hosted live in Boston in 2019 and 2020. By 2020, the event had reached 300 attendees, 53 speakers and 38 panels across five programming tracks.
In 2021, CEX shifted to a remote format. In 2022, CEX partnered with College Esports Championship (CEC) for a remote edition and also presented a special Veterans Day CEX with Digital Media Conference in Los Angeles. That program featured the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Space Force esports teams in a remote event format.
In 2023, CEX returned to a live in-person format in Boston. The event’s ability to move between live, remote and special-event formats reflects the strength and flexibility of the CEX platform.
